For the first time in its history, Mindoro State University (MinSU) has taken to the airwaves with the launch of MinSU on AIR (Accessible Information through Radio), carrying the tagline “Tinig ng Kaalaman, Impormasyon at Inobasyon.” Traditionally known for its excellence in classroom instruction, research, and extension services, MinSU has now expanded its reach to radio broadcasting—bringing education and information closer to the community.
The program will serve as a voice for MinSU, highlighting success stories, achievements, projects, and innovations that contribute to community, regional and national development. It aims to bridge the communication gap and keep communities informed and engaged, particularly on matters related to MinSU's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives. It also seeks to connect with not just students and faculty but also alumni, local communities, and individuals in rural and underserved areas where internet access is limited.
For its pilot episode, MinSU on AIR spotlighted Project MOSES (Monitoring and Observation of Site-Specific E-Weather Stations), a MinSU’s flagship initiative in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - MIMAROPA aimed at strengthening community disaster preparedness and climate resilience. The program's guest speaker, Engr. Christian A. Hernandez, Team Leader and visionary of Project MOSES, explained the project’s history, objectives, and impact.
According to Engr. Hernandez, Project MOSES is an IoT-based system that provides near-real-time weather data within a 9-25 km radius. The system is composed of e-weather stations that monitor temperature, rainfall, soil moisture, and other critical environmental factors. Through this technology, MinSU is empowering local communities by offering a localized weather forecasting system, functioning as a community-based PAGASA in covered barangays.
University President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol graced the pilot episode with her segment “Let’s Enj-gage: A Minute with President Enj.” She highlighted MinSU’s LIFTMINSU initiatives, which aim to position the university as the Region’s University of Choice. She underscored the importance of promoting impactful projects like Project MOSES, reaffirming that MinSU’s programs and innovations go beyond academic excellence—they are also catalysts for community development.
Dr. Apostol also expressed her gratitude to the project’s partners, particularly DOST-MIMAROPA, for their support in realizing MinSU’s vision for community-centered solutions.
Following its successful pilot episode, MinSU on AIR will continue to feature various university projects, initiatives, and educational processes in its upcoming episodes. This 10-episode radio program airs every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on AR FM 98.1.
