Students from Mindoro State University (MinSU) launched GADLY, an innovative tool designed to promote gender-inclusive communication. Officially introduced in November 2023, GADLY identifies gender-biased terms and suggests neutral alternatives, ensuring that written content aligns with the principles of respect and equality.

The tool, created by BS Information Technology students Moses I. Alcantar, Christian I. Cabrera, Christian Angel V. Bual, Pamela C. Delizo, and Cedric Louise G. Gonda, goes beyond paraphrasing. It also integrates plagiarism detection and grammar correction, making it a comprehensive resource for students, educators, and professionals.

GADLY is accessible on any device with internet access and functions as a Microsoft Word plugin. Its standout features include the ability to analyze users' writing styles and offer personalized suggestions, streamlining the writing process and improving overall quality.

The project aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality, encouraging the use of inclusive language in both academic and professional settings. By fostering gender-neutral communication, the tool supports public discourse that reflects respect and equality.

What began as a capstone project has gained attention from regional agency, with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA adopting GADLY for use by its Gender and Development (GAD) Unit. The tool’s development involved implementing advanced machine learning models to detect and replace gender-sensitive terms, integrating plagiarism-checking and grammar-correction functionalities, and creating a Microsoft Word extension for user convenience.

GADLY represents MinSU’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing societal challenges through technology. The students and college faculty expressed pride in contributing to a project that promotes inclusivity and equality, highlighting the role of language in shaping respectful communication. It also showed MinSU’s dedication to empowering its students to develop solutions that make a meaningful impact, reinforcing the university’s role as a leader in innovation and social responsibility.

With tools like GADLY, the future of written communication becomes not only more precise and polished but also deeply rooted in empathy and inclusivity—values that resonate with MinSU's vision for societal progress.
