Faculty and researchers from across MIMAROPA gathered for Sulong Dunong 2025, an intensive training workshop on research publication, held from March 11 to 14, 2025, at Mindoro State University (MinSU) Calapan Campus.
The initiative, conducted under MIMAROPA: INSIGHTS (Mentoring Innovations for Manuscript Advancement and Research Output Publication Academy: Innovations Nurtured through Scholarly Guidance, Harnessing Techniques, and Strategies), was spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA in collaboration with MinSU and Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC). The program aimed to enhance the research and publication competencies of faculty members and educators from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the region.
Recognizing the challenges in research productivity, the workshop provided expert mentorship, technical guidance, and hands-on training in academic writing, publication processes, and ethical research practices.
Distinguished mentors included Dr. Erlinda C. Palaganas, Professor Emeritus XII from UP Baguio; Dr. Jun S. Camara, Faculty from Pangasinan State University; and Dr. Thelma Domingo-Palaoag, Full Professor from the University of the Cordilleras. They facilitated engaging discussions, interactive Q&A sessions, and practical exercises designed to deepen participants’ understanding of academic writing and research ethics.
On Day 2, Dr. Mark Preston Lopez, Professor V from Mountain Province State University, led discussions on transforming theses into publishable formats, utilizing digital research tools, and analyzing Scopus-indexed journals. He also provided valuable insights on adapting research manuscripts based on journal publisher guidelines. A major highlight of the session was an in-depth analysis of a Scopus-indexed journal article, giving participants a clearer understanding of academic journal structures and publication standards.
The final day of the program was dedicated to paper presentations, where participants presented their research outputs for critique and feedback from facilitators and peers. This hands-on approach enabled them to refine their work and apply the concepts learned throughout the workshop.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Leonel C. Mendoza, OIC-Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension of MinSU, emphasized the program’s role in strengthening research culture and building a network of trained mentors across HEIs in MIMAROPA.
With its success, the initiative is expected to boost research engagement, improve institutional rankings, and contribute to academic excellence in the region.
