WeaVerse, the official delegation of Mindoro State University to the Communications Olympiad, was crowned the first-ever Grand Champion for their project “Para kay Lambay” on June 27 at the Meralco Building in Pasig City.
From the initial phase of the competition, an online 24+ hour hackathon, WeaVerse swept all ten categories, bringing home a total of 15 medals: six golds, three silvers, and one bronze:

Social Media – Gold
Video Storytelling – Gold
Creatives – Gold
Research and Insights – Silver
Use of Multimedia – Silver
Editorial Category – Silver
Presentation Skills – Bronze
These awards were based on their communications plan “Para kay Lambay”, an electrification project proposal for the Mangyan communities of Mindoro Island, in partnership with One Meralco Foundation and other stakeholders.
Out of 15 grand finalists, WeaVerse advanced to the Top 3 and delivered a live pitch presentation before industry leaders in communications and marketing, including representatives from IABC Philippines and One Meralco Foundation.
After the final round, WeaVerse was declared the overall champion, outperforming the University of the Cordilleras (1st runner-up) and the University of the Philippines Visayas (2nd runner-up).
As Grand Champion, the MinSU team received a ₱30,000 cash prize, five Samsung smartphones, a 55” Samsung television for the university, five gold medals, exclusive merchandise, and paid internship slots under the Camp COMCO Mentorship Program.
The winning team was composed of Genard Magsayo, Michael Angelo R. Manal, Jhon Carlo M. Landicho, Cyrus Rafael Macaraig, and Alyssa Mae Macatangay. They were guided by their coach and adviser, Dr. Harieth Cawagdan-Cuarto.
In total, WeaVerse brought home 15 medals for MinSU and made history as the first-ever Grand Champion of the Communications Olympiad.
Organized by the COMCO School of Communications and IABC Philippines, in partnership with the COMCO League of Enterprises and the One Meralco Foundation, the Communications Olympiad is a national competition that focuses on marketing and communications strategies to promote renewable energy and rewrite the climate change narrative.
