Mindoro State University (MinSU) through Women, Gender and Development conducted a Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) Training for its CODI members as well as university key officials held on April 23, 2024 at MinSU-Main Campus, Alcate, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.
It was designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in carrying out their responsibilities effectively.
Atty. Sherlyn A. Layesa, Atty. IV of MinSU served as the resource person for the training. With her expertise in legal matters and institutional governance, Atty. Layesa guided the CODI members through various pertinent topics, ensuring they were well-versed in relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
Among the key legislative frameworks covered were the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, Safe Spaces Act, and Gender-based Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Institutions. These laws serve as the framework empowering them with the knowledge needed to address such issues sensitively and effectively within a university setting.
Moreover, the procedural aspect of the CODI was thoroughly discussed during the training session. CODI members were briefed on standard procedural requirements essential for the proper handling of complaints while upholding due process to ensure consistency, fairness, and transparency in the resolution of issues. The training also emphasized the imposable penalties for violations of university policies and codes of conduct.
Dr. Christian Anthony C. Agutaya, OIC-President, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, stating that the MinSU upholds its commitment to confront all forms of gender-based violence. He also said that as an institution supporting the campaign to end violence against women, MinSU continuously seeks to create strategies, guidelines, plans, and initiatives to eliminate all types of gender-based violence against women.
“To make MinSU a safe place for all, the university continuously seeks to create strategies, guidelines, plans, initiatives, policies, protocols, and tools to abolish gender-based violence in all of its manifestations. Thus, commitment, involvement, and acceptance are necessary to make this a success,” remarked Dr. Agutaya.
The training concluded with a commitment from participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills in their respective roles within the CODI.
