Mindoro State University (MinSU) celebrates another milestone of academic excellence as its Bongabong Campus, whose flagship program is Fisheries, achieved an impressive 75% institutional passing rate in the October 2025 Fisheries Professionals Licensure Examination (FPLE), significantly higher than the national passing rate of 69.61%, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), October 15, 2025.
A total of 27 MinSU fisheries graduates successfully passed the rigorous national examination held on October 9-10, 2025. Of these, 22 were first-time takers, posting a remarkable 81.48% passing rate, while 5 repeaters achieved 55.56%.
Highlighting this achievement, Kathleen Kaye E. Abueva, a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries graduate, proudly secured the 4th spot nationwide with an outstanding 90% rating, ranking among 1,507 successful examinees. This marks a historic first for MinSU - its first-ever topnotcher in the FPLE.
According to Ms. Mary Ann C. Royo, OIC-Head of the MinSU Institute of Fisheries, this year’s results are both historic and inspiring.
“Yes, this is the first-ever topnotcher produced by MinSU in the Fisheries Licensure Examination,” Ms. Royo proudly shared. “This batch is really quite good. I expected that many of them would pass, and we were overjoyed that we produced a Top 4,” she said.
Ms. Royo also emphasized the various interventions implemented to help students prepare for the board exam.
“We have a retention policy to ensure quality among our fisheries students. We also offer a subject dedicated to board review. Before the exam, we encouraged them to enroll in review centers, and we conducted free coaching sessions, a joint effort between our faculty and the student organization, to provide them with tips and strategies,” she added.
The week before the examination, the Institute of Fisheries, in collaboration with the Institute of Fisheries Student Organization (IFSO), conducted a Free Pre-Examination Coaching Program for FPLE 2025, led by her faculty members (Ms. Elsie Y. Guibone, Ms. Mailen Mae Yadao, Mr. Fritz Fiedalan, Mr. Roland D. Urate, and Mr. Regal R. Izon).
The program also featured guest lecturers and resource speakers from renowned academic institutions in the country. Their shared expertise and motivation greatly contributed to the students’ success.
Looking ahead, Ms. Royo shared the Institute’s commitment to sustaining and enhancing its board exam performance.
“We will continue the free coaching program, strengthen the curriculum, and further enhance our board examination preparation. Most importantly, we will uphold and improve the university’s retention policy,” she said.
The exceptional performance of MinSU Bongabong’s Fisheries graduates in the 2025 FPLE underscores the University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its mission to produce competent, industry-ready professionals in fisheries and marine sciences.
