ATI MIMAROPA Holds Search for Regional Kabataang OA at MinSU

In preparation for National Organic Agriculture Month, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) MIMAROPA held the Search for Kabataang OA (Organic Agriculture) themed “Kabataang OA, Kabataang OK: PGS Mas Pinalakas para sa Bagong Pilipinas” among the students of Mindoro State University (MinSU) at the Agri-eco Building, MinSU Main Campus in Alcate, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, October 22, 2024.

In preparation for the 10th National Organic Agriculture Month, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) MIMAROPA held the Search for Kabataang OA (Organic Agriculture) themed “Kabuhayang OA, Kinabukasang OK: PGS Mas Pinalakas para sa Bagong Pilipinas” among the students of Mindoro State University (MinSU) at the Agri-eco Building, MinSU Main Campus in Alcate, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, October 22, 2024.

Engr. Karen T. Vicente, the Organic Agriculture Regional Point Person of ATI-RTC MIMAROPA, emphasized that the activity aims to raise awareness of organic agriculture and encourage students to pursue agriculture and agriculture-related courses.

A total of 42 students from the College of Agriculture and Allied Fields took part in the competition. The quiz bee covered various topics including legal aspects of organic agriculture such as RA 10068 (Organic Agriculture Act of 2010) and RA 11511 (Amendment to the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010), the Participatory Guarantee System, Philippine National Standards relevant to organic agriculture, Integrated Diversified Organic Farming Systems, and Vermiculture and Vermicomposting Technology. Current events related to organic agriculture were also part of the challenge.

After a series of elimination rounds, the competition was narrowed down to  15 participants, from which the Top 5 finalists emerged. The winners of the quiz bee were:

  • Champion: Ella Jane J. Javier
  • 2nd Place: Jessicah A. Atienza
  • 3rd Place: Joane S. Helera
  • 4th Place: Trisha D. Yambao
  • 5th Place: Isias A. Dado

Aside from certificates of recognition, plaques, and medals, the winners were also awarded cash prizes: PhP 10,000 for the Champion, PhP 7,000 for 2nd place, PhP 5,000 for 3rd place, PhP 3,000 for 4th place, and PhP 2,000 for 5th place.

Javier, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Science student, will represent the MIMAROPA Region in the Search for National Kabataang OA 2024 competition to be held this November in Quezon City.
