As part of its commitment to raise awareness and promote action against violence toward women, Mindoro State University (MinSU) Bongabong Campus launched the "Orange Exhibit", earlier today, November 25.
This initiative, spearheaded by Ms. Maria Majorie Castillo, Director for Women, Gender, and Development (WGAD), highlights MinSU's active participation in the nationwide 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW).
The exhibit serves as a platform to educate, inspire, and mobilize the MinSU community toward eliminating gender-based violence. It also aims to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of VAW, showcase the campaign's milestones and legislative victories to end VAW and empower individuals to take actionable steps in fostering a violence-free for all.
During the launching, a short talk on the 18-day campaign to end VAW was conducted among students, emphasizing the importance of advocacy and collective action in addressing this social issue. Faculty, staff and students were also provided with informative reading materials on Gender and Development (GAD) to enhance their understanding of gender equality and women’s rights.
One of the highlights of the event was the commitment signing of the “I Vow to End VAW,” where attendees pledged their support in fighting violence against women.
The event also marked the official opening of Equali-Tea and Coffee as part of the Coffee, Tea, and Me Initiative of WGAD. This space not only served as a welcoming area for conversations on gender equality but also represented a harmonious blend of advocacy and community-building over a warm cup of coffee or tea.
In her remarks, Ms. Castillo expressed her gratitude to the MinSU community for their participation and emphasized their crucial role in promoting gender equality.
The Orange Exhibit is part of the broader 18-day campaign, running from November 25 to December 12, which seeks to empower communities and advocate for a violence-free future for women and girls.
