Situated southeast of the MinSU Calapan Campus, the existing manmade lake has long been a defining feature of the university’s landscape. With the groundbreaking ceremony held on January 30, 2025 at MinSU Calapan City Campus, this landmark will soon be transformed into the MinSU Calapan Campus Manmade Lake and MinSU Development Park. This visionary project has been made possible through the generous funding of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro under the leadership of Governor Humerlito "Bonz" A. Dolor.

This developmental project aims to enhance and transform the lake into a vibrant eco-park, providing a multifunctional and eco-friendly space for relaxation, learning, and community engagement. It also strengthens the university’s commitment to sustainability while boosting the province’s tourism potential.

Leading the groundbreaking ceremony were University President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, Governor Dolor, City Mayor Marilou F. Morillo, and the Board of Regents, headed by its Chairperson and CHED Commissioner Dr. Marita R. Canapi. They were joined by key university officials, faculty, students, and other stakeholders from local government units.

In her message, Dr. Apostol expressed deep gratitude to Governor Dolor and the Provincial Government for their unwavering support in making this vision a reality.

“This project is a testament to our shared vision, dedication, and the unwavering support of our entire MinSU community, CHED, the MinSU Board of Regents, the provincial government, and all stakeholders. My heartfelt gratitude goes to each one of you because this would not be possible without our collective efforts.”

She also emphasized that beyond enhancing students’ learning experiences, the project will open doors for tourism development in Oriental Mindoro.

“Let us break ground with enthusiasm and optimism, knowing that this project will serve as a beacon of excellence for this generation and the generations to come.”

As Chairperson of the Board of Regents, Dr. Canapi welcomed the initiative, highlighting its long-term benefits for MinSU and its stakeholders.

“The Board of Regents is happy to support this developmental project, especially since the financial resources come from a source that is both collaborative and connected to Mindoro State University. I see this as a space that will bring together the MinSU community and serve as a hub for various developmental activities among faculty members, teachers, and students,” Commissioner Canapi said.

She also envisioned the park as a landmark attraction for MinSU, contributing to tourism and income generation for the university and surrounding communities.

“This park has the potential to become a great spectacle—a tourist attraction that places MinSU as a preferred destination in the province,” she added.

Meanwhile, Governor Dolor, in his address, highlighted the provincial government’s continuous efforts to support educational and developmental initiatives for MinSU. He emphasized that this is just the beginning of his commitment to making the university one of the best in the country and beyond.

“We will make MinSU one of the most outstanding and best universities in the Philippines and the world. Together, let us lift MinSU,” he said as he concluded his message.

Set for completion by summer 2025, the MinSU Manmade Lake and Development Park will feature an upgraded and revitalized manmade lake, lush greenery and walking trails, a scenic bridge, shaded benches, and designated areas for study, social interaction, and cultural activities.

The event also featured the unveiling of the project perspective, a walkthrough video showcasing the park’s design, and a site blessing officiated by Rev. Fr. William Abas.

Major highlights of the event included the capsule-laying ceremony and the ceremonial turning of the soil, spearheaded by Governor Dolor, Dr. Apostol, Commissioner Canapi, members of the Board of Regents, and LGU representatives, marking the official commencement of construction.

Once completed, this will be open to students, faculty, and visitors, offering a harmonious blend of nature, education, and recreation. Beyond its aesthetic and environmental significance, the park is envisioned as a venue for cultural and social activities, fostering unity within the MinSU community and beyond.
