Dubbed, "Modernizing Agriculture for Food Security and Sustainable Farming," Mindoro State University (MinSU) led by the Institute of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (IABE), marked another milestone as the host of the Philippine Society for Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers - Pre-Professional Group (PSABE-PPG) Luzon-wide Convention from January 29-31, 2025.
Aiming to foster innovation and sustainable practices in agriculture, this convention is participated by delegates from eight SUCs offering ABE program, particularly Cagayan State University - Carig Campus, Laguna State Polytechnic University, Central Luzon State University, Romblon State University, Pampanga State Agricultural University, Isabela State University,and Nueva Vizcaya State University.
Bannered by the spirit of bayawhood, a warm welcome entrance for the delegates highlighted the first day of the event.
In his welcome remarks, Engr. Mark Keylord S. Onal, acknowledged the attendees and shared his experiences from his time at the Luzon-wide Convention. He expressed hope that this year’s objectives would be successfully achieved.
Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President, expressed her appreciation for both the participants and organizers, assuring the University’s commitment to sustainable food security. “As we strive for innovation, we must ensure that we are environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable. We must prioritize the long-term health of our planet and the well-being of all our stakeholders,” Dr. Apostol stressed.
Meanwhile, PSABE-PPG National President, Honorable Dennis M., expressed confidence in Mindoro State University’s capabilities and dedication to hosting the event. He eagerly anticipated the contributions the university would offer and wished everyone an enjoyable experience. He also emphasized the significance of the bayaw connection in his speech.
In the afternoon plenary session, Engr. Crestituto Mangaoang discussed The Role/Significance of Young Professionals in the Agri-Fishery Industry and the Organization in the Digital Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, while Engr. Janice Vargas delved into Navigating the Future of Sustainable Agriculture: The Role of Standards and Regulations for Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers. Also, Engr. Mark Keylord Onal also presented on The Role of Anthropometry in Local Agricultural Machine Design, and Engr. Christian Hernandez showcased Project MOSES as a Catalyst for Addressing Weather Data Scarcity and Enhancing Resource Management.
The three-day event will highlight various activities such as pABEDAHAN ng Utak: ABE Quiz Bee, pABELISAN: ABE RACE, and Mr. & Ms. PSABE-PPG Luzon-wide 2025 competition. Other competitions will also include Cultural Performance, Bilao Painting, Undergraduate Thesis Presentation, Tractor Driving and Hitching, Parts Identification, CAD Challenge, and Mechatronics Challenge.
The first day concluded with a socialization night.
This is not the first time MinSU has hosted such an event. The university previously hosted the 1st MIMAROPA Regional PSABE-PPG Convention in February 2023.
