Mindoro State University (MinSU), through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (RDE), held a consultative meeting with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) on April 21, 2025 at the MinSU Main Campus. The meeting focused on research ethics concerning Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICC/IP), specifically aiming to align MinSU’s research practices with NCIP policies.
The primary agenda was the presentation of the University Research Ethics Review Committee (URERC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual for consultation and alignment with NCIP guidelines. The discussions highlighted the importance of ethical standards and collaboration protocols when conducting research involving indigenous communities.
Present at the meeting were Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President; Mr. Leonel C. Mendoza, OIC-Vice President for RDE; Mr. Mac A. Masagca Jr., Director for Research; Dr. Lourdes V. Icalla, Director for Extension; and Ms. Algeline Herrera, URERC Chair and other RDE coordinators and staff. NCIP Regional Director, Dir. Jomer M. Samong, also participated in the discussions.
The meeting aimed to ensure that MinSU’s research practices uphold the rights and culture of indigenous communities, fully complying with NCIP guidelines.
