“Cultivating the seedlings of agriculture for the future generation starts at the hearts and minds of the youth.”
The Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) 2025 invited youth representatives from different academic institutions in the Philippines for a collaborative showcase of diverse agricultural processes, sustainability models, and cultural exchanges.
Mr. Vesnerjch C. Dela Torre, a fourth-year Agriculture student at MinSU, participated as the official representative of the University in the two-week-long seminar held on July 20 to August 2 at the University of Eastern Philippines, Catarman, Northern Samar.
The event aimed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of agriculture and agribusiness in the context of Northern Samar’s unique environment and socioeconomic conditions; showcase sustainable agricultural practices, research, and technologies being implemented; facilitate international student exchange, cultural immersion, and academic collaboration among member institutions; and expose students to various agricultural and environmental challenges and solutions through hands-on activities and site visits.
As the MinSU representative, dela Torre took the opportunity to immerse himself with the new environment and absorb as much learnings as possible through active participation and discussion. Among the activities were the synthesis session for insights, polvoron making, oyster mushroom production, vermicomposting and paper charcoal briquette production, and various campus tours and site visits that broadened his horizons of learning.
Through active participation, dela Torre was able to gather new inputs in agriculture and as he returns back to the University, a basketful of new knowledge and insights await to be shared and imparted to the MinSU community, to better hone the University’s agricultural prowess and further enrich the capabilities of the community to break the limits of agricultural innovations that can sustain the next generation.
