Mindoro State University (MinSU) and the Department of Agriculture–MIMAROPA (DA-MIMAROPA) conducted a benchmarking activity on September 2–5, 2025, in preparation for the Project Modern Agricultural Urban and Peri-Urban Yield Advancement (MAUYA).

The team, led by MinSU’s Engr. Randy Joco and Engr. Mark Keylord Onal, and DA-MIMAROPA’s Engr. Roy Arguiles and Engr. Jommel Del Mundo, visited Turbulent Greenhouse in Tagaytay City and Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Nueva Ecija to study advanced greenhouse designs, automation, and best practices.

During their visit in Turbulent Greenhouse, the group toured around modern facilities featuring automated drip fertigation, hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics. Systems are monitored in real time for pH, nutrients, moisture, and temperature, with automated shading and mobile app controls. Crop management practices like irrigation scheduling and pollination were also shared.

The delegation also met with CLSU officials and toured KAMALIG, PhilSCAT, PreDiCt, and the College of Engineering Farm, after arriving at Nueva Ecija. Discussions focused on greenhouse automation and indoor farming innovations. CLSU also expressed interest in a possible partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and consultancy support for Project MAUYA.

Once established, the project will serve as a demonstration farm, research hub, production facility, and extension center for farmers, agricultural extension workers, technologists, students, and other practitioners. It aims to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt sustainable and modern urban agriculture practices.

The benchmarking activity provided valuable insights into advanced smart greenhouse systems, which will serve as a reference for the detailed engineering design, program of works, and management framework of Project MAUYA.
