Mindoro State University (MinSU) President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol personally visited the MinSU Bongabong Campus (MBC) on September 29, 2025 to assess the extent of damage caused by Typhoon Opong, which struck the province over the weekend.
Pres. Apostol inspected damaged facilities and spoke with students, faculty, and staff to check on their condition and assure them of continued support from the University administration.
Earlier in the day, the MBC administration coordinated with the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) for immediate restoration of electricity within the campus. Repair works on downed power lines commenced in the morning, with electricity expected to be fully restored by late afternoon.
To prepare the campus for the resumption of regular operations, a cleanup drive was organized after the typhoon. Faculty, staff, and students took part in clearing debris and restoring order to school grounds, reflecting the collective spirit of bayanihan that defines the MinSU community.
Pres. Apostol also emphasized that recovery measures are being prioritized to ensure the safety and continuity of academic activities. She called on the MinSU community to extend assistance to those severely affected by the typhoon’s impact.
Over the weekend, Oriental Mindoro was placed under Signal No. 3 as Typhoon Opong made landfall in the southern part of the province, heavily affecting the Municipality of Bongabong.
