In the aftermath of Typhoon Opong, which battered Southern Oriental Mindoro under Signal No. 3 on September 26, 2025, the spirit of bayanihan shone across the Mindoro State University (MinSU) community as campuses united in relief and recovery efforts.
On September 27, just a day after the onslaught, the MinSU Bongabong Campus, despite sustaining heavy damage, opened its doors to the community by offering free charging stations for faculty, staff, students, and nearby residents. The initiative went beyond restoring battery power—it kept families connected, ensured communication lines remained open, and reminded everyone that no one is left behind in times of need.
As offices and classes resumed in Bongabong on September 28, faculty, staff, and students immediately mobilized for initial clearing operations, with support from the Bongabong Traffic Management Office (TMO) and the MBC ROTC Unit. Volunteers worked hand in hand to restore safety and order across the campus. To lift spirits, the University Student Government (USG) of Bongabong Campus sponsored hot macaroni soup for volunteers, a simple gesture that brought warmth and comfort during the cleanup.
Meanwhile, at the Calapan City Campus, the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), together with the University Student Government, spearheaded a day-long donation drive. They spent an entire day distributing aid with smiles, compassion, and an unwavering sense of service.
In addition, according to the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, Technology, and Extension (VP-RITE) is preparing another batch of Balikatan, the University’s relief initiative, to support the Bongabong Campus and other affected communities.
As MinSU continues to rise from the storm, it remains steadfast in the belief that no calamity is stronger than the solidarity of its people.
