In observance of the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM), the 3rd Year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics students of Mindoro State University (MinSU) – Main Campus launched a creative and data-driven SDG Statistical Display today, October 21, at the College of Agriculture and Allied Fields (CAAF) Library, MinSU Main Campus.
Anchored on this year’s NSM theme, “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All,” the exhibit highlights the crucial role of data and statistics in monitoring and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the MIMAROPA Region and the entire country.
According to Ms. Mary Ann M. Hernandez, Assistant Professor IV and Director of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, the exhibit forms part of the course requirements in her Advanced Statistics class. Beyond its academic purpose, however, she emphasized that its goal is to raise awareness about the power of data in promoting meaningful progress and inclusive development.
“This SDG Statistical Display is not just a simple requirement. It is an initiative to make our community - particularly the students, faculty, and staff of MinSU, more aware of the importance of statistics in advancing the SDGs in our region,” Ms. Hernandez explained.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jesse T. Zamora, University Professor and Statistician at MinSU, commended the students’ efforts, stressing that data accessibility is key to effective governance and sustainable development.
“These data are not just for statisticians; they are tools that everyone can use to see where we are and how we can reach our development goals,” Dr. Zamora remarked while evaluating the student projects. “Statistics play a crucial role as a basis for planning and decision-making, especially concerning development issues,” he further emphasized.
The displays were entirely crafted by the 3rd Year BSEd Mathematics students, who impressively showcased their creativity and ingenuity by utilizing recycled materials to bring their statistical concepts to life. Each exhibit visually represents various SDG targets, illustrating how progress is measured and the relevant statistical data involved.
The exhibit is open to the public and can be viewed at the CAAF Library, MinSU Main Campus, until the conclusion of the month-long National Statistics Month celebration on October 24, 2025.
“We invite everyone to visit this exhibit. It is a great honor for our students to share their knowledge and work,” Ms. Hernandez encouraged.
