Mindoro State University (MinSU) reaffirmed its vital role in regional development as it received recognition and presented a significant research study during the 2025 MIMAROPA Population and Development (POPDEV) Conference held from November 19 to 21, 2025 at the Swiss-Belhotel Blulane, Manila, as part of the POPDEV Week observed from November 23 to 29.
With the theme “Tao ang Puso ng Pag-unlad: Pagsulong ng Rehiyon, Lakas ng Henerasyon Ngayon at Bukas,” the three-day conference brought together policymakers, development partners, and researchers to discuss population trends and strengthen multi-sectoral collaboration for the region’s sustainable progress.
A highlight of MinSU’s participation was the presentation of a CPD-funded collaborative research project by Ms. Anna Liza A. Vitto, faculty from the College of Teacher Education (CTE). The study, titled “Bridging the Data Gaps and Socioeconomic Challenges for Inclusive and Sustainable Development of IPs of Mindoro Provinces,” authored by Ms. Vitto, Dr. Jessie Ray B. Mangundayao and Dr. April M. Bagon-Faeldan from the CTE, focuses on Indigenous Peoples (IPs) across Mindoro, aiming to guide policy and resource allocation to ensure no community is left behind in the region’s development efforts. It identified critical challenges, including limited access to education, high dropout rates, insufficient healthcare services, reliance on traditional medicine, high unemployment, and underrepresentation in governance.
In recognition of MinSU’s sustained involvement in advancing population and development initiatives, the University received a Plaque of Recognition for its unwavering partnership and invaluable contribution to POPDEV efforts in MIMAROPA. Mr. Dominic Mortella, Planning Officer I received the award on behalf of University President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol during the “Parade of POPDEV Champions” and solidarity night.
The conference also featured discussions led by CPD Executive Director Usec. Lisa Grace Bersales, alongside a keynote message from Hon. Arnan C. Panaligan, Representative of the First District of Oriental Mindoro, highlighting the importance of placing people at the center of development.
The event concluded with the Presentation and Signing of the Pledge of Commitment, marking a unified effort to embed POPDEV strategies into local and regional development planning.
