MinSU strengthens academic excellence through OBE-focused faculty training

With the goal of enhancing faculty competence in aligning instructional practices with OBE standards, Mindoro State University, through the Office of Flexible and Distance Learning, conducted a two-day workshop on OBE-aligned Curriculum Mapping, Syllabus Review, and Instructional Material Development on April 27-28, 2026 at the Calapan City Campus Audio-visual Room.

Through the Outcome-based Education (OBE) framework, MinSU aims to ensure that its programs remain responsive to national standards and global educational demands. While Dr. Ciedelle P. Salazar, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs underscored the importance of strengthening academic systems through outcomes-based approaches.

Leading the first major session, Dr. Emmanuel J. Songcuan provided a comprehensive discussion on the OBE framework with his topic, “Curriculum Mapping and Syllabus Review”. He emphasized the need for clearly defined learning outcomes and demonstrated alignment strategies with key frameworks such as the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Orders (CMOs). Participants were also equipped with practical tools for evaluating and improving course syllabi. 

In the afternoon, Dr. Wilma R. Lontoc, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, discussed “Hybrid Pedagogy: Designing Blended Teaching-Learning Activities for the SDGs”. She highlighted the integration of synchronous and asynchronous methods to address diverse learner needs, emphasizing contextualized and learner-centered instruction.

The first day provided collaborative workshops for the participants to evaluate curriculum maps and syllabi, while on the second day, the third speaker, Ms. Marian Lee B. Lineses discussed “The Inclusive Lens: Evaluating GAD-Responsive Instructional Materials,” stressing the integration of gender and development (GAD) principles in content design.

Dr. Lea B. Miciano, Director for Flexible and Distance Learning, presented the university’s policies and guidelines for instructional material development, outlining processes from submission to publication and encouraging sustained faculty engagement in producing quality learning resources.

Gracing the event, University President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, expressed her full support and also reiterated the importance of developing impactful instructional materials to ensure continuity and quality of learning.

The training concluded with an evaluation session, certificate awarding, and a photo opportunity, marking the successful completion of the workshop, while also affirming MinSU’s thrust in academic excellence and institutional development.
