Mindoro State University (MinSU) has been recognized as the 105th member of the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) network under the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, reinforcing its push to strengthen research, innovation, and intellectual property (IP) development.

The recognition came after a strategic meeting held on May 6 between university officials and IPOPHIL representatives, including Ralph Jharvis H. Alindogan, Director IV of the Documentation, Information, and Technology Transfer Bureau (DITTB), along with other key personnel.

MinSU was represented by Mr. Leonel C. Mendoza, OIC-Vice President for Research, Innovation, Technology, and Extension; Dr. Polemer Cuarto IV, Director of Research and Publication Services; and Engr. Randy A. Joco, Director of Innovation, together with members of the University’s ITSO team.

Although the memorandum of agreement has yet to be formally signed, MinSU’s ITSO-related initiatives will already be credited toward its progression in the network’s clustering system, which includes Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels.

The University officials said the establishment of its ITSO unit is expected to boost high-impact research by supporting the creation, protection, and commercialization of IP assets.

Membership in the ITSO network also grants MinSU access to a range of capacity-building programs and technical assistance from IPOPHIL, including training on patent search, drafting, and technology transfer policies.

The University may likewise benefit from international training opportunities through the World Intellectual Property Organization, expanding its exposure to global standards and practices in intellectual property.

With this development, it affirms the institution’s commitment to translating research outputs into practical innovations that contribute to socio-economic growth. (jdtdc)
