MinSU honors mothers, fathers for enduring role in shaping lives

There are days when universities celebrate achievements measured in numbers—board exam passing rates, research outputs, and academic distinctions. But on May 11, 2026, the University Auditorium of Mindoro State University became a space for something far more personal: a tribute to the people whose sacrifices quietly make every success possible—the parents.

The event, titled “Celebrating Timeless Bond: Honoring Love, Sacrifices and Guidance of Parents,” organized by the Women, Gender and Development (WGAD) Office, formed part of the university’s observance of both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. More than a ceremonial gathering, it became a heartfelt tribute to the invaluable role of parents in nurturing families and supporting the academic and personal growth of students—recognizing the unseen labor, silent prayers, and unwavering support that continue to shape lives and futures.

One of the most meaningful segments of the program was an orientation on Postnatal Depression: Father’s Edition led by Ms. Marianne B. Garcia, University Nurse. The discussion opened conversations on the often-overlooked emotional struggles experienced by fathers during the transition to parenthood, emphasizing that mental health concerns are not exclusive to mothers alone.

“Lingid sa ating kaalaman, hindi lang mga mothers ang nakakaranas ng postnatal depression,” Garcia shared. “Gayundin ang mga father; nahihirapan din sila... hindi lang ito napapansin dahil mas nakatuon tayo sa nararanasan ng mga nanay.”

With this orientation, MinSU community was reminded that strength should not require silence, and that fathers, too, carry emotional burdens while adjusting to the responsibilities of parenthood.

The Vice Presidents of the University also delivered inspirational messages centered on gratitude, sacrifice, and the enduring value of parental guidance. They encouraged the MinSU community to honor and appreciate their parents not only during celebrations, but especially while they are still present to receive love and recognition.

In her reflective message, Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President spoke not only as an institution leader, but as the “Mother of the University.” Drawing parallels between parenting and leadership, she emphasized that nurturing an institution requires the same patience, compassion, resilience, unconditional care and trust that define parenthood.

Among the most emotional moments of the event were the “Testimonial Journeys,” where members of the MinSU community shared deeply personal stories about parenthood and sacrifice. Expectant and new mothers spoke of the fear, joy, and transformation that come with bringing new life into the world. A single mother moved the audience with her story of resilience and devotion, proving that one person can carry the love and strength of two parents. Meanwhile, a new father reflected on the realities of sleepless nights, uncertainty, and the profound fulfillment of holding his child for the first time.

Though the program concluded within the walls of the auditorium, its message lingered long after the event ended: behind every successful student, dedicated employee, and thriving institution is a parent - or someone who stood as one - whose quiet sacrifices remain the true heartbeat of Mindoro State University.
