Turning research into products, startups, and technologies begins with protecting innovation. Through the InnoACADEMY: Foundational Training on Intellectual Property Rights, faculty members, researchers, students, and technology innovators will gain practical knowledge on securing intellectual property (IP) protection and receive institutional support to help bring their innovations closer to commercialization.
The four-day capacity-building program is one of the major highlights of the 3rd InnoBIDAtion Festival, themed "Bridging Ideas, Driving Advancement: Connecting Research, Industry, and Startups for Sustainable Innovation," which will be held from July 27 to 31, 2026 at the Mindoro State University (MinSU) Calapan City Campus.
Designed for MinSU faculty members, researchers, students, innovators, and technology developers, the training targets participants with research outputs, technologies, inventions, software, creative works, products, designs, brands, and other innovations that have the potential for intellectual property protection and commercialization.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of intellectual property rights, including the different forms of IP protection, how to determine the appropriate protection for their innovations, patent searching and patent drafting, IP filing requirements and procedures, and strategies for protecting and maximizing the value of research outputs and creative works.
More importantly, the program goes beyond classroom learning by providing participants with a clear pathway toward securing legal protection for their innovations. As part of MinSU's commitment to strengthening innovation and technology transfer, the University will assist and shoulder the filing fees for qualified intellectual property applications covering MinSU-developed or MinSU-affiliated innovations.
Qualified innovations may be filed under patent, utility model, industrial design, trademark, or copyright protection, enabling innovators to safeguard their work while opening opportunities for technology transfer, startup creation, industry collaboration, and commercialization.
The initiative reflects MinSU's continuing efforts to build a strong innovation ecosystem where research extends beyond publication and generates tangible economic and social impact. By empowering innovators to protect their intellectual assets, the University aims to increase the number of technologies and creative works that can be translated into market-ready solutions, industry partnerships, and community-driven innovations.
Faculty members, researchers, students, and innovators with technologies, inventions, software, creative works, products, designs, brands, or other innovations with intellectual property potential are encouraged to participate and take the next step toward protecting and promoting their work.
