Building on the foundations to secure future innovations, the 3rd InnoBIDAtion Festival empowered young innovators into protecting their creations legally through a 4-day workshop in intellectual property protection, which culminated in a groundbreaking partnership, held on July 27-31, 2026 at MinSU Calapan City Campus.
Spearheaded by the Research, Innovation, Technology and Extension (RITE) Office, through the Office of Innovation, MinSU i-BIBES (Innovative Business Incubator for Biosystems Solutions) and the Intellectual Property and Technology Support Office (ITSO) of the University, the event highlighted the importance of securing ownership of the technologies and services innovated by the budding innovators and entrepreneurs, and leveraging intellectual property ownership to their advantage.
The 3rd InnoBIDAtion Festival anchored on its continuing vision to develop innovations for the community and strengthen innovators by capacitating them and linking them with potential partners to help grow their innovations. It was participated by students, faculty members, external incubatees and entrepreneurs, and stakeholders geared towards upscaling their innovations.
The first three days highlighted the InnoACADEMY: Training on Intellectual Property (IP), where representatives from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) discussed the processes of intellectual property and how the participants can properly use what type of IP protection for their inventions.
On the fourth day, participants gathered for high-impact sessions of discussions from panel experts, including the University President, Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, and representatives from regional line agencies including DOST-MIMAROPA and DICT-MIMAROPA; and knowledge and practice sharing from reputable private organizations such as AGRITEKTURA Enterprises, HIVE Energy PH, community organizations and stakeholders.
The final day culminated on the digital launching of the InnoHUB - the Central Office of Innovation of the university, ceremonial torch-lighting, recognition of Cohort II Incubatees of MinSU i-BIBES, launching of the 7th S.P.I.C.E. (Special Project Invention Contest and Exhibit), and strategic partnerships between MinSU and external partners such as DICT MIMAROPA, Agritektura Enterprises, HIVE Energy PH, and Ten Eleven Manila, Inc., among others.
Gracing the event to witness the celebration and activities were the Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, CHED Commissioner and Chairperson of the MinSU Board of Regents; Dr. Bernardo N. Sepeda, DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director; and IPOPHL representatives, alongside student and faculty innovators, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders.
As the University continues to strengthen its research and innovation agenda under LIFTMINSU, the festival reaffirmed that meaningful innovation is built not only through creativity, but through collaboration, intellectual property protection, and partnerships that transform ideas into lasting impact.
