Amid continued rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon, Mindoro State University (MinSU) provided warm meals to employees and students who remained on campus after the University shifted to work-from-home arrangements and suspended classes on August 18, 2026 due to inclement weather.
At the MinSU Main Campus, employees assigned to essential onsite services, along with student-dormers and others stranded by the weather, received free bowls of warm rice porridge sponsored by Ms. Elisa M. Agoncillo, Director for Extension, and Mr. Edgardo Agoncillo, Director for Production and Business Operations and Auxiliary and Physical Facilities.
For those who stayed on campus, the simple meal offered more than warmth amid the cold and rainy weather.
“Simple lang naman ang lugaw, pero malaking bagay na rin, especially ngayong malamig at maulan. We just wanted to make sure na may mainit silang makakain habang nandito sila sa campus,” Ms. Agoncillo said.
A student-dormer likewise shared how the gesture helped those who were unable to leave the campus because of the heavy rain.
“Malaking bagay po talaga yung lugaw, lalo na sobrang lakas ng ulan at wala ring bukas na tindahan sa canteen. At least, may mainit kaming makakain habang andito po sa school,” one student-dormer said.
The initiative reflected the spirit of malasakit and bayanihan embodied by Project HAPAG, led by MinSU President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, which promotes care, sharing, and solidarity through simple acts of service.
The warm meal provided a welcome moment of comfort and togetherness for members of the MinSU community who remained on campus during the weather disturbance. (jdtdc)
