For some, it was just a few minutes of their day. For someone else, it could mean another chance at life.
The Mindoro State University (MinSU) Main Campus community collected 101 bags of blood during its annual bloodletting activity on September 30, 2026, bringing together faculty members, employees, students and nearby residents in an effort to help replenish the local blood supply.
Among the regular donors was Esperanza A. Maminta, University Registrar who has been donating blood since 2019.
“Simula 2019, regular na akong nagdo-donate ng dugo kasi maganda sa katawan natin,” Maminta said, adding that donating blood is also a way of helping people who need transfusions.
“Malaking tulong ito sa mga nangangailangan,” she said.
Held at the MinSU Main Campus University Auditorium, the activity was organized by the university’s Women, Gender and Development (WGAD) Office in partnership with the Oriental Mindoro Blood Council.
MinSU has been conducting regular university-wide bloodletting drives to promote voluntary blood donation and community involvement.
The continuing initiative was among the university’s public health efforts recognized with the Masigasig Award during the Exemplary Public Health Services Awarding Ceremony in 2024.
The university conducts the bloodletting activities in partnership with the Oriental Mindoro Blood Council and the Provincial Health Office.
The blood donation campaign will continue in October, with separate bloodletting activities scheduled at the MinSU Calapan Campus and Bongabong Campus. (jdtdc)
