Mindoro State University (MinSU) strengthened its participation in the national culture and arts education community as three of its officials attended the 2nd National Convention of the Association of Culture and Arts Educators of the Philippines, Inc. (ACAEP), held on October 15–17, 2026, at the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Davao in Davao City.

A significant highlight during the convention was the election of Ms. Rhea B. de Guzman, MinSU Director for Culture, Heritage and Arts, as ACAEP National Treasurer for the 2026–2031 term. Her election places a MinSU representative in the association’s national leadership, which brings together educators and practitioners working to advance culture and arts education in the country.

Also representing the University were Mr. Ross Christian C. Manuel, CHA Deputy Director for Victoria (Main) Campus, and Mr. Nephtali P. Fajardo, CHA Deputy Director for Calapan Campus.

The three-day convention gathered culture and arts educators, researchers, and practitioners from state universities and colleges (SUCs) and other higher education institutions (HEIs) across the Philippines. Discussions and research presentations covered Philippine music, indigenous chants, traditional textiles, and ethnic attire, highlighting how these cultural expressions can be studied and integrated into classroom instruction.

The sessions also addressed contemporary concerns, including the influence of generative artificial intelligence on music and the ethical use of indigenous attire. These discussions underscored the need for educators to approach cultural materials with a sound understanding of their origins, meanings, and the communities that preserve them.

MinSU’s participation supports its work in culture, heritage, and arts education by connecting its representatives with colleagues from other institutions and providing opportunities to exchange research, teaching approaches, and cultural preservation practices. Director de Guzman’s election also gives the University representation in ACAEP’s national leadership for the next five years. (kpic)
