Young Innovators from MinSU LabHigh Triumph at International Young Agri-Scientist Competition

Three young innovators from Mindoro State University Laboratory High School showcased their CalaDetech Remote Sensing for Calamansi Crop Monitoring project at the International Young Agri Scientist Competition in Malaysia, earning an impressive fifth place among Southeast Asia's top entries.

Three (3) young innovators from the Mindoro State University (MinSU) Laboratory High School - Main Campus, proudly represented the Philippines in the International Young Agri Scientist (IYAS) Competition held at the Kluster Kids Attraction in Selangor, Malaysia, September 15-16, 2024.

The team, composed of Ryzza Lynne Nava, Olrick Jerome Bay-an, and Julia Ysabelle Lauzon, presented their groundbreaking project titled CalaDetech Remote Sensing for Calamansi Crop Monitoring. Their innovative technology utilizes remote sensing to monitor calamansi crops efficiently, offering farmers a cutting-edge solution to improve crop management and boost yields. The trio showcased their project via Zoom, demonstrating its potential to transform agricultural practices in calamansi farming.

Amid tough competition from 29 entries across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia, the MinSU team’s innovation and hard work paid off as they secured a coveted spot among the Top 15 semi-finalists. Demonstrating their technical expertise and compelling presentation skills, they advanced further and earned an impressive fifth place overall in the international competition.

These young innovators were guided and mentored by Dr. Jerrel S. Reyes, Director for External Linkages and International Affairs, and assisted by MinSU i-BIBES Project Team led by Engr. Randy A. Joco and Engr. Jake C. Siscar, with the support of Junior Project Manager Mr. Joshua Alexandre A. Logmao and MinSU Laboratory High School advisers.
