Mindoro State University (MinSU) has taken a significant stride towards supporting the education of deserving dependents of agrarian reform beneficiaries and small farmers and fisherfolk through a virtual Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with the Landbank Countryside Development Foundation, Inc. (LCDFI), April 3, 2024.

The partnership solidified through the virtual ceremony, aims to provide scholarships and educational assistance to empower the youth from farming and fishing communities to pursue higher education.

MinSU, known for its commitment to academic excellence and community development, sees this collaboration as a crucial step in bridging educational gaps and empowering rural youth. Through the support of LCDFI, students from agrarian reform beneficiary families and small farming and fishing communities will have access to quality education, thereby enhancing their opportunities for personal growth and contribution to their communities.

The virtual MOA signing ceremony, attended by representatives from both MinSU led by Dr. Christian Anthony C. Agutaya, OIC-University President, and LCDFI led by Mr. Roy C. Oscillada, OIC-Executive Director, marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to uplift the lives of marginalized in agri-fishery sectors through education.

Under the terms of the agreement, LCDFI through the Iskolar ng Landbank Program will provide financial assistance to deserving students, covering allowance/stipend, book allowance, and other course requirements, clothing/uniform allowance as well as subsidy assistance for graduating scholars. Also, special cash award incentives will be given to scholars graduating with high honors. MinSU, on the other hand, will assist in the screening and selection process and ensure that the scholarship program aligns with its mission of providing accessible and quality education to all.

Dr.  Agutaya expressed his gratitude to LCDFI for their support, emphasizing its impact on the students of MinSU. He said that the implementation of free higher education in SUCs particularly in tuition fees is not enough to sustain getting a college diploma because of various issues and concerns as well as the current economic situation. However, with this scholarship, students have found its resources paving the way to reach their dreams.

“With the provision of scholarship given by LCDFI, prospective students who will receive the scholarship will be relieved knowing that they have found a resource which will help them complete the bachelor's degree and gear them towards the success of their future careers.

He also reiterated MinSU’s commitment to strive harder to help MinSU’s students finish their studies and prepare them to become responsible and engaged citizens.

Meanwhile, Mr. Oscillada said that he envisioned having the best of the best students will join them in their industry. He also added that with the product from MinSU and the scholarship provided by LCDFI, he was assured that those scholars will be their partners in the progress of the province and will contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. He also pledged a support system to help deserving students fulfill their careers.

“We will work hard to let our scholars succeed in their chosen career,” Oscillada said.

LCDFI is a non-stock, non-profit, corporate foundation of Landbank of the Philippines and is classified as a Government Owned and Controlled Corporation.
