Committed to supporting its students as they embark on their professional careers, Mindoro State University (MinSU) through the Guidance Office and Office of the Student Affairs and Services conducted a three-day Pre-Professional Development Program at the MinSU Main Campus Auditorium, June 4 – 6, 2024.
The program targeted the graduating students equipping them with essential knowledge, skills and opportunities for personal reflection and growth.
Among the topics covered during the activity were building strong professional foundation, cultivating personal growth and wellbeing and navigating the professional landscape.
On its first day, Mr. Edralin B. Magcalayo, Sr. Labor Employment Officer and Ms. Sofia Ala Logmao, Labor Employment Officer III of the Department of Labor and Employment – Provincial Employment Service Office discussed the Labor Law and Policy Essentials, particularly the RA No. 11261 Joint Memorandum Circular No. 001-2019 known as First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act, consisting of the employees’ rights, benefits and effective workplace communication. They also tackled techniques and strategies for building a professional network including the conflict resolution techniques. Additionally, Atty. Sherlyn A. Layesa, Atty. IV of MinSU shared her experiences and gave tips on how to pass for board and licensure exams.
The second day was allotted to the spiritual awareness recollection featuring guided meditation sessions, mindfulness workshops and exercises for self-reflection and gratitude. Also, it offered strategies for managing stress and maintaining work-life balance to enhance personal growth.
On the third day, the participants learned essential financial management skills such as developing a comprehensive budget, effective debt management, and saving and investing strategies through the expertise of Mr. Alexis Fortunato, Instructor I of MinSU Calapan Campus and former Coordinator for Student Affairs and Services.
According to Mr. Jonbert M. Caoli, Director for Student Affairs and Services, this initiative is among the services committed by the university to ensure the smooth transition of students from enrollment to employment.
