MinSU marks 5th year, honors faculty and staff for decades of service
There was both pride and quiet gratitude in the air as Mindoro State University (MinSU) celebrated its fifth year as a full-fledged university, turning the spotlight on the people who have long worked behind the scenes to build it - its faculty and staff.
The recognition program, held on March 16, 2026 at the Calapan City Campus, paid tribute to years - and in many cases, decades - of commitment and sacrifice. It honored the men and women who have served as the backbone of the institution throughout its existence.
The ceremony formed part of MinSU’s 5th Anniversary celebration, anchored on the theme “Dangal ng Ika-Limang Pagdiriwang ng Pagiging Mahusay, Matino at Mabuti.”
At the heart of the program was the conferment of Loyalty and Service Awards to employees who have served the institution and the government for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and even 40 years. For many awardees, these numbers were more than just milestones; they represented a lifetime spent shaping young minds, developing academic programs, and quietly sustaining the day-to-day operations of the university.
University officials underscored that MinSU’s transition from its early days as a state college to its present standing as a university was carried by the steady hands of its dedicated personnel.
Honoring a lifetime of service
A particularly moving part of the program was the recognition of the Retiree Awardees, whose careers have left a lasting mark on the institution. Among them was Dr. Jesse T. Zamora, former SUC President and University Professor, who devoted 44 years to public service and education. His long tenure - spanning decades of institutional change - was cited as a reflection of steadfast leadership and enduring commitment.
For many in attendance, the recognition of retirees was more than ceremonial; it was a moment to reflect on the individuals who helped shape the MinSU of today. As a symbol of the government's and the university's gratitude, the awardees were presented with plaques and certificates of recognition.
As MinSU moves forward, the university leadership called on its current and future workforce to carry on the values of excellence, integrity, and service that defined the day’s honorees. Five years into its journey as a university, MinSU continues to build on a foundation laid not just by policies, but by the people who, year after year, chose to serve.
MinSU officially became a full-fledged university on March 16, 2021, pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 10596, as amended by RA 11006. (jdtdc)
