CHED MIMAROPA Leads MinSU and other HEIs in Internationalization Efforts

To strengthen the internationalization efforts of Mindoro State University (MinSU) and other higher education institutions (HEIs) in Oriental Mindoro, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA, led by Regional Director Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, conducted a two-day orientation on "Internationalization of the Philippine Higher Education and Global Citizenship Education" at the MinSU University Auditorium, Alcate, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, October 3, 2024.

To strengthen the internationalization efforts of Mindoro State University (MinSU) and other higher education institutions (HEIs) in Oriental Mindoro, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA, led by Regional Director Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, conducted a two-day orientation on "Internationalization of the Philippine Higher Education and Global Citizenship Education" at the MinSU University Auditorium, Alcate, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, October 3, 2024.

The orientation aimed to equip HEIs with strategies to enhance global competitiveness. The orientation, hosted by MinSU aims to equip HEIs with strategies to enhance their global competitiveness. Dr. Catanes emphasized the critical role of internationalization in improving performance in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings and the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). During his discussion, he urged HEIs to develop a global mindset while remaining locally responsive, ensuring that graduates possess the global competencies to while serving their communities.

The first day of the event welcomed representatives and heads from various institutions, including MinSU, John Paul Colleges, Divine Word College of Calapan, Paradigm Colleges of Science and Technology Inc., Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology, and City College of Calapan.

On the second day, Dr. Catanes and the Regional Internationalization Team conducted a writeshop aimed at documenting MinSU’s innovation initiatives. This workshop focused on projects and programs for potential application for the THE Impact Rankings and WURI. MinSU participants evaluated how these initiatives impact both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with global challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

After each presentation, Dr. Catanes and Izn team provided valuable recommendations to enhance the global relevance and impact of MinSU's initiative, emphasizing the importance of aligning them with SDGs. Following the presentations, he noted the potential for MinSU’s programs to feature in global impact rankings.

 “Ranking is about bringing what we have and what we do globally,” Dr. Catanes stated.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President, expressed her commitment to enhancing the university’s international presence and achieving higher rankings. She reaffirmed MinSU’s dedication to implementing impactful projects both locally and globally.
