Mindoro State University (MinSU) participated in the 2024 Regional Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) Congress, held at Marinduque State University, Tanza, Boac, Marinduque, from September 5 to 7, 2024. The event, themed "Estudyanteng MIMAROPA: Linangin at Hubogin sa Pamamagitan ng Sining at Edukasyon tungo sa Maunlad na Bukas," focused on student development through arts and education.

Leading the MinSU delegation was University President Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, accompanied by Dr. Genelita E. Hernandez, University/Board Secretary V; Mr. Jonbert M. Caoli, Director for Student Affairs and Services; Dr. Evelyn A. Leynes; Ms. Cristina Siscar, Accountant III; and student representatives.

Highlight of the Day 1 of the congress was the "Talk to Popoy" segment, where CHED Chairman and UniFAST Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero “Popoy” E. De Vera III addressed questions from the audience and shared his personal experiences to inspire students to reach for their dreams. Chair Popoy emphasized the TES program as CHED's flagship initiative, providing free education to all Filipino students. Moreover, he expressed pride in the program's success noting that the free education was once just a dream but has now become a reality, helping many Filipino youth achieve their goals and lift themselves out of poverty.

“Kayo ang magbabago ng buhay ng mga Pilipino. You’ll be the one to change the society kaya dapat proud kayo because of what you have achieved,” said Chair Popoy referring to the first batch of TES graduates.

“In your generation, there are students who make difference in the lives of their families, in the communities and the country,” he added.

Meanwhile Dr. Apostol and other SUC officials also shared their personal stories of success, encouraging students to appreciate the free education they now enjoy through TES.

“Wag kayong mapapagod na pagyamanin ang inyong sarili. Gamitin ninyo ang pagkakataon na ibinibigay ng CHED through Chair Popoy at iba pang scholarships dahil ito lang ang magpapaangat ng buhay natin”, Dr. Apostol urged the students.

On its Day 2 of the event, MinSU was one of the HEIs which received recognitions during the CHED Townhall Meeting with MIMAROPA Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). MinSU got two recognitions – (1) for achieving 100% of its program offerings with a Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) and (2) for the exceptional performance of its graduates who achieved remarkable success by securing ranks within the Top 5 of the March 2024 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).

In addition, Dr. Apostol joined other SUC presidents in the conferment of Marinduque State University (MarSU) into a university status and also in the investiture of Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta as the first university of MarSU.

Aside from the dialogues and recognitions, the event was also packed with activities showcasing student’s talents and skills from various institutions in the regions.
