At the recent Asian Society of Researchers, Educators, and Inventors, Inc. (ASREI) conference, held from October 25-27, 2024, Mindoro State University’s (MinSU) Bachelor of Arts in English Language (ABEL) students demonstrated academic excellence, securing awards and showcasing their innovative research for Student Category. The conference, themed "Enhancing Research Excellence through Advanced Techniques and Practices: Insights on Writing Research," provided a platform for academic contributions across various disciplines.
Pearl Princess Natividad was awarded Best Research Paper in the Student Category for her study titled "Decoding Public Safety: A Semiotic Analysis of Select Infoposters from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)." Natividad’s work delves into how visual communication can effectively convey public safety information to the community.
Moreover, Haichelle Oriendo received the Best Abstract Award for her study, "Leech and Short's Stylistics Model, Halliday's Transitivity, Eggins' Thematic Progression, and Halliday and Hasan's Cohesion Theories in the Stylistic Analysis of Human-Generated and AI-Generated Summaries," contributing new perspectives on language and technology.
Other MinSU ABEL students also presented their research at the conference. Alma M. Nisperos, Jomark D. Mendoza, and Ana Lie I. Vallende shared their study entitled "The Structure of Disfluency: Are Filled Pauses Predictors of Sentence Complexity?". Additionally, Ms. Xylla Jane Reponte presented her research, "Macrostructural Moves in Select AB English Language Students' Thesis Introductions: Swales' CARS Analysis."
As MinSU continues to support its students’ academic endeavors, the university remains committed to fostering a culture of innovation and research that prepares them to make meaningful contributions to society.
