To strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the MIMAROPA region, TESDA MIMAROPA hosted the 5th MANCOM and Harmonization and Collaboration Meeting on November 5, 2024. Held at the TESDA MIMAROPA Building in Calapan City, the event gathered presidents and representatives from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the region, including Mindoro State University (MinSU), Occidental Mindoro State College, Marinduque State University, Romblon State University, Palawan State University and Western Philippines University as well as partner agencies such as Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA, and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) MIMAROPA.
The meeting aimed to enhance TVET programs to equip graduates with industry-relevant skills and support workforce readiness. Discussions focused on aligning TVET education with the needs of local industries. Key areas included joint research and innovation, creating employment pathways through industry partnerships, curriculum development to meet industry standards, and addressing challenges from new technologies, such as micro-credentialing and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
During the event, TESDA shared its 2024 accomplishments and presented its agenda for TVET. Meanwhile, Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, MinSU University President presented the SUCs' collaborative agenda and highlighted the role of academic institutions in enhancing TVET programs.
Dr. Apostol, along with other SUC leaders and officials from partner agencies discussed strategies and initiatives to improve TVET programs that respond to evolving industry demands.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing the commitment of all parties to collaborate on TVET development.
Also present were Dir. Angelina M. Carreon, TESDA Regional Director; and Dir. Ben-Hur B. Baniqued, TESDA Assistant Regional Director, Dr. Agustin C. Mendoza, NEDA Regional Director and Ms. Jhonalyn A. Maglalang, CHED MIMAROPA representative.
