A stronger commitment to sustainability initiatives has propelled the Mindoro State State University (MinSU) to a higher standing in the global academic arena, following the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026.

MinSU secured a place in the 801–1000 band out of 1,603 universities globally under the Overall Sustainability Impact Rankings, marking a notable rise from its previous position in the 1001–1500 bracket. The latest results reflect the university’s growing commitment to embedding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its teaching, research, and community engagement efforts.

The improved standing reflects broader gains across multiple SDG indicators, where the university demonstrated varying but expanding strengths. These include a relatively strong performance in Zero Hunger (201–300) and Life Below Water (301–400), alongside consistent placements in the 401–600 range for Gender Equality, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, and Life on Land.

Other indicators show the university’s continuing development in key areas of public service and academic impact, including No Poverty (401–600), Good Health and Well-being (801–1000), and Quality Education (601–800). It likewise posted comparable results in Decent Work and Economic Growth (601–800) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (601–800), while participation in Reduced Inequalities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Partnerships for the Goals placed within broader global ranges, reflecting areas for further strengthening.

Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol, University President has previously underscored sustainability as a central thrust of academic programs, research initiatives, and community extension work—efforts that appear to be gaining international recognition through the ranking system.

With its performance in the 2026 THE Impact Rankings, MinSU also emerged as the top-ranked higher education institution in the MIMAROPA region, based on data from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MIMAROPA.

The THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities worldwide based on their contributions to the achievement of the SDGs, assessing institutions not only on academic excellence but also on their social impact, environmental responsibility, governance practices, and community engagement.

As universities around the world increasingly embrace sustainability as a measure of institutional success, MinSU’s latest achievement highlights its growing role in advancing development goals while expanding its presence in the global higher education landscape. (jdtdc)
