A sea of rainbow flags, placards, and voices calling for acceptance filled the campus grounds on June 24, 2026, as students, faculty members, and staff came together to celebrate Pride Month and renew their commitment to building a more inclusive academic community.
Anchored on the theme “Breaking the Silence: Focusing on Creating Inclusive Campuses Free from Discrimination,” the celebration featured a Pride March that highlighted visibility, respect, and support for individuals of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. Participants marched in solidarity, underscoring the importance of fostering safe spaces where everyone can learn, work, and thrive free from prejudice.
University officials emphasized the institution’s commitment to promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion across its campuses.
In his message of support, Dr. Christian B. Apostol acknowledged the struggles often endured in silence by members of the LGBTQIA+ community and reaffirmed the University's commitment to creating an environment where every individual feels valued and respected.
“Sa bawat isa na matagal nang lumalaban nang tahimik, sa bawat isa na piniling maging matatag sa kabila ng mga hamon, nais kong sabihin ito nang buong puso: Nakikita namin kayo, naririnig namin ang inyong kuwento, at pinahahalagahan namin ang inyong pagkatao. Hindi kayo anino sa mundong ito—kayo ang liwanag na nagbibigay kulay sa Mindoro State University,” Apostol said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Alice R. Ramos, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, encouraged members of the academic community to continue embracing courage, hope, and authenticity.
“May you always find the strength to stand tall, the courage to be yourself, and the hope to keep moving forward. Your story matters, your voice matters, and your presence matters,” Ramos said.
Beyond the Pride March and solidarity messages, participants also attended an orientation on HIV awareness conducted by Dr. Laurence S. Esteban, resident physician of the University Clinic. The session provided accurate information on HIV prevention, promoted awareness, and emphasized the importance of eliminating stigma surrounding HIV and related health concerns.
According to Mr. Dominic Mortella, Deputy Director of Women, Gender and Development of the MinSU Victoria (Main) Campus, the celebration forms part of the University's continuing efforts to cultivate an inclusive and informed campus community where respect, understanding, and acceptance are strengthened through education and meaningful engagement.
The celebration concluded with participants reaffirming their support for initiatives that advance equality, diversity, and inclusion within the University.
The Pride Month celebration was simultaneously conducted across Mindoro State University's Victoria (Main), Calapan City, and Bongabong campuses, reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring that every member of the MinSU community is seen, heard, and valued. (jdtdc)
